    Which Crossover?

My friend has a set of Model 19 clones that he has built up from various components & the problem he has is that the voicing on them is not at all like the factory 19's that I have. Components are - 515 LF, 811 horn with 902 driver. The crossover is an Altec 800Hz? PA type crossover....not sure of the model number. It's definitely not the cabinet as he had them professionally made from the original plans & they're probably better than mine....really solid...made from 1" MDF...full bracing.

I have recommended that he upgrade to the Model DN19-8U Replacement Crossover from Iconic & my question is - will this work OK with the 515's as they are 16 ohm drivers.
    Thanks in advance,
    John

    Re: Which Crossover?

Model 19's use a 416 and cross at 1200. The Xover also has some compensation built in. Schematics are on line in various places. Google markwart for an improved version.

    Re: Which Crossover?

Sounds like he needs a pair of 416-8b's or 416-8c's and some Altec 1200 Hz crossovers.

Yeah, I know he doesn't have the correct woofer but all reports are that the 515 is very similar to the 416. I've got the schematics for the N1201 but before we go to the effort of constructing this or purchasing the Iconic version....will it work OK with the 515's 16 ohm impedence?

I googled markwart & couldn't come up with anything remotely resembling Altec crossovers.....

    Re: Which Crossover?

The model 19 crossover is designed for 8 ohm 416. it won't work properly with the 515-16 and neither will Jeff Markwart's version.

Thanks for the info...not what we wanted to hear but at least we now know where we are headed.
Looks like we'll have to convert the 515's to 8 ohm, or fork out for the 416's.

    Many thanks
